The CFF Cycle for Life is tomorrow. While my longest ride this year was 30 miles, I’m still hopeful I can ride the 65-mile route. I’m fairly certain I’ll ride the TT bike instead of my road bike. My longest ride on the TT bike was Race the River, and that was less than an hour. This will be a challenge, but I’m feeling pretty good and I feel prepared.
An Insight about Sacrifice
I’m leaning strongly toward running the Badger Mountain Challenge 50K next year. Sign-ups open in November, and by then I’ll know if I’m prepared and willing to do the work to train for that kind of event.
The past two days, I felt a twinge in my right hip. Monday, I stretched it at lunch. That made it feel better for the rest of the day, but I felt it again in the evening. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to ride to work this morning. I did – with no trouble, even – but this was a warning.
Surviving Recovery Weeks
A week & a half ago, I finally realized how wiped I was from training and racing. I told myself I’d take a two weeks off from training. Since my next event was the CFF Cycle for Life on August 13th, I’d do nothing but ride my bike.
So, ten days in, how am I doing? Continue reading
I Shoulda Taken a Week Off!
Leading up to Race the River, I felt weary. My training got messed up because of transportation issues and other things out of my control. Although my 10-week half-marathon training program was scheduled to start the day after Race the River, I told myself I’d take the week off.
I took two days off. Continue reading
Food Stuff
I love what the last few years of training have done for my body. But I still have this belly. Continue reading
Race the River 2016
Short version: Another awesome race at RtR. I’m not quitting. I’m still a triathlete.
Long version: How much time ya got?
Anxious, but Hopeful
Race the River is in 2 1/2 days. I’m anxious, but I’m hopeful. With the exception of another open-water swim – which will be for the purpose of just practicing, not working out – I’m done working out. All that’s left for me to do is relax, eat healthy food, and get as much sleep as I can. Continue reading
Appreciation
Along my triathlon journey, several people have told me I’ve inspired them. That’s nice, but I haven’t put much thought into it. Yesterday, I chatted with an acquaintance about her triathlons — she’s done one — and I described my three-year struggle with swimming (still struggling!) and why next weekend’s race will likely determine how much longer I continue trying. At the end of our conversation, she thanked me, and told me it really inspired her. Continue reading
Another Last Brick Workout
I decided to try another “last” Brick workout yesterday. My race bike has been tuned up (still waiting on the stem riser to get it dialed in for fit, but I can ride it). My water bottle that sits between the aero bars was delivered. I figured it was a good chance to try another ride before the race. Also, it was fairly windy. I’d rather deal with ‘glitches’ while training than have training be flawless and then deal with problems while racing. So, off we went. Continue reading
Another Swim “Breakthrough”
I have to start by pointing out this is July. July is the cruelest month. Why? Le Tour de France. I want to watch all of the stages. I want to immerse myself in it. But the weather outside is perfect, and I’m training. What ends up happening is I don’t get enough sleep.
